Logistics, Case & Pallet Labelling Machines

Print and apply labelling systems for cartons, cases, addresses, barcodes and pallets.

Application route

Labelling considerations

Logistics projects usually involve variable data, case IDs, barcodes and pallet labels. Print and apply systems are selected around product movement, label position and data workflow.

  • Check container size range and line speed
  • Confirm label material, roll direction and label position
  • Plan coding, barcode or traceability requirements early
  • Review operator access, cleaning and changeover requirements

Logistics & pallet labels

Treat data, print, placement and verification as one logistics process

A pallet or case labeller must receive the correct data, print a durable symbol, place the label on an accessible face and prove the failed-label response. A successful print alone does not confirm that the correct logistics unit left the line.

Load presentation

Record pallet dimensions, overhang, wrap condition, approach direction, stop accuracy and the faces available to the applicator.

Data ownership

Identify the source of SSCC, GTIN, destination, batch and quantity fields, including acknowledgement and recovery after a communications fault.

Verification and reject

Define whether the system needs a read check, formal symbol verification, data comparison, label-presence check, stop, retry or manual quarantine.

GS1 UK advises that pallet labels are normally applied to adjacent short and long sides and provides placement guidance for barcode height and edge clearance. The exact customer or retailer requirement must be confirmed from the current applicable specification. See GS1 UK pallet label placement guidance.

Use the barcode verification guide, pallet label position guide and pallet labelling machine page to define the complete scope.
